The homily I heard at the Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel this afternoon was a real eye-opener. Especially since after I went through FEEDCON Q1, man, it was really depressing.
The priest talked about hitting rock bottom. He mentioned J.K. Rowling's speech at Harvard about the "fringe benefits of failure", even citing what she considered her biggest failure, a broken marriage, losing all financial stability, etc. He cited some of his own, like a swimming pool experience which was due to his height.
I honestly thought that the quiz (and many before that) qualifies. Especially when you fail enough of them to fail a subject. But just a few hours ago, I realized its not only that. I have quite a few experiences like this (but I'll stop myself here. Iba na lang. hehehe).
The mass ended at 5:30 pm. I was on the FX before 6. Really, I'm supposed to be more street smart than this. I should have been suspicious that the driver asked for 70 pesos as fare. But I thought it was due to the gasoline prices. I was definitely suspicious when I saw high-tension power lines in a straight line. There was only one place on the SLEX that I knew I could see those. And I knew I needed to do something when I saw the Wheel of Fate shining in the window.
There was one person I knew who took this route often. Good thing he replied quickly enough for me to get my bearings. To cut things short, I've been to a lot of places today. DLSU, SM Makati, Glorietta, Landmark, Greenbelt, Target Mall, SM City Sta. Rosa and finally home. Definitely the biggest u-turn I took to date.
I guess my other definition of rock bottom aside from total and complete failure would then be a detachment from one's comfort zone. Far, FAR from your comfort zone that you don't even know what went wrong.
